About the Owners

Jim and Dana Maloney

In 2017, our middle son and his wife welcomed our first grandchild, Beatrice Louise Maloney. To be closer, we moved from North Carolina to Alabama’s Eastern Shore. Our love for adventure, travel, and meeting new friends, combined with our experience as Airbnb superhosts in Charlotte, led us to Fairhope, Alabama. We found a historic B&B with 200' of beachfront on Mobile Bay, and we instantly fell in love with it. We decided to continue operating it as a bed and breakfast inn and opened Jubilee Suites Boutique B&B in April 2018 after extensive remodeling.

A welcoming courtyard with red brick floors, two wrought iron tables and chairs with blue cushions and blue sun umbrellas, a large shade tree and numerous bushes and plants, and multi-story houses on 2 sides of the courtyard, reminiscent of the New Orleans style architecture.

History of the Inn

The Jubilee Suites Building

Jubilee Suites Boutique B&B, originally built in Mobile, AL, possibly as barracks for wartime ship builders, has seen many renovations and ownership changes. Purchased by Mr. Shoop in 1947, it was moved to its current location and reopened as the Sunset Beach Hotel in 1948. In the mid-1950s, it became Eastern Shore Apartments and Cottages, operating as apartments for almost 30 years. In 1987, Dr. and Mrs. Gravlee transformed it into Away at the Bay, a bed and breakfast.

What a lovely experience to stay at the Jubilee Suites. The Camellia suite was comfortable and everything we needed was provided. The views were wonderful and we loved the firepit lit on the grounds.

We just completed a 11-night stay at Jubilee Suites and couldn't have enjoyed it more. The Azalea Suite was big and roomy for our four guests and the balcony overlooking Mobile Bay was spectacular.

Certainly one of the most enjoyable places we've stayed in a long while - immaculate, gracious touches, beautiful view, wonderful breakfasts and friendly owners and staff. We'll be back.
