One of our favorite things about Fairhope, AL is the short and mild winters. Jim grew up in Minnesota and I am originally from Missouri, so our average daytime temperatures here in December, January and February feel like a real treat! We have cooler temperatures, of course, but they feel perfect for being outdoors and enjoying the natural beauty of our waterfront town. Jim and I have lived places where winter comes on strong around the end of October and the last big snow storm can happen as late as the first of April!
This year we'll be taking a few month-long reservations for guests during January and February. Each of our lovely family-size suites has 1 or 2 bedrooms, 1 or 2 baths, a full-size kitchen, laundry room, large great room and dining table plus full access to our incredible waterfront views on Mobile Bay. Perfect for a couple or a family who wants to get away for a "winter" vacation in the lovely little resort town of Fairhope, AL. There's so much to do here at our boutique bed and breakfast and so much going on in Fairhope!
We love to bike in the cooler weather, and
the Eastern Shore Trail runs right by us about a block from Jubilee Suites. Check out that map! It's an easy bike ride north through the towns of Montrose and Daphne out across Mobile Bay to the USS Alabama in Spanish Fort. Or travel south through Fairhope and Point Clear all the way to Weeks Bay Reserve. There are plenty of scenic spots to stop for a break all along the trail. We like to rent bikes at The Fairhope Store and pack a take-out picnic lunch from one of the many catering businesses in Fairhope. Rae's Kitchen has recently relocated to Section Street and their lunch menu is perfect for take-out.
This time of year is also perfect for golf. We've partnered with the beautiful Rock Creek Golf Club to create a Stay & Play Golf Package for a round of golf, lunch, and lots of extras that can be added to any suite booking here at Jubilee Suites. To make your planning extra-easy, we'll work with you and Rock Creek to set up your perfect tee time. Choose your favorite suite, arrive any day of the week and add on our Stay & Play Golf Package. But do it soon while the weather is cool and inviting!
If you're into fishing, you're in luck. Fairhope is a waterfront town and Jubilee Suites is also located on 200 feet of beachfront right on Mobile Bay. Cooler water and air temperatures make the winter months ideal for a fishing trip into the Bay or the Gulf of Mexico... or fish right from our beach or the Fairhope Pier. We work with several charter boat companies who would be happy to take you out to catch dinner, which you can cook in your suite or on one of our BBQ grills. Speckled trout move around at various temperatures so you'll need a guide to find the secret spots they hide in cooler water. With daytime temperatures averaging in the 60s, you'll still need to pack your sunscreen! Call us to set up your trip at least a week before your stay at Jubilee Suites.
City of Fairhope activities this time of year also take advantage of the lovely weather. December kicks off with our Magical Christmas Parade, an annual event featuring local high school bands, 60+ floats, and Santa Claus! Perfect for the whole family. We love that Fairhope never misses an opportunity to close the streets and have a community party!
“Santa Saturdays” continue this year too. From 10:30 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 10th, bring your kiddos to the Fairhope Museum of History for photos with Santa Claus. Parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to take photos.
December 31, the streets close down again for the annual New Years Eve street party. Music, food, fellowship with our neighbors... this celebration is always a highlight of the year. The main stage entertainment will begin playing at 8:30 pm at the corner of Fairhope Avenue and Church Street. Other entertainment will include face painting, fireworks, and a ball drop at midnight.
Of course, the monthly First Friday Art Walk
is such a treat in cooler weather. We like to start at the Eastern Shore Art Center and gradually work our way through town, stopping to visit with our friends along the way. We can always count on great music during and after Art Walk at local hangouts like the Book Cellar, Bone and Barrel, and the Copper Column where our very own Christy Wells-Fritz often sings and plays with her husband Roger Fritz.
See our Things To Do page, the Fairhope Community Calendar and the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce Calendar for more activities.
